Corwin Formation

Specimens:

Description. The downstream end of the section forming locality 98RAS21 exposes a medium gray bentonitic mudstone containg ironstone nodules and a poor coal. The ironstones contain radially-leaves highly digitate Ginkgo leaves with Podozamites and Desmiophyllum. No angiosperms were seen. Lenticular cross-bedded medium gray, weathering to orange, fine-grained sandstones contain branch impressions/compressions and comminuted plant debris. Some sandstones contain approximately 1 cm diameter vertical borrows and Equisetites rhizomes with nodules.

Angiosperms in the Kukpowruk River sections appear to be restricted to localities close to the axis of the Barabara Syncline and thus represent the youngest sediments exposed in this area. They appear to be equivalent to those in the Killik Tongue, possibly those in the uppermost lower Killik, but more likely the upper Killik. Bentonites are frequent but deeply weathered and were not sampled.
